The Ford Transit is the UK’s most stolen vehicle, and 47,000 commercial vehicles are stolen each year at a total asset cost of £152million. With commercial vehicles being such a desirable target for thieves, it is essential that you take every possible measure to prevent your van from being stolen.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) have this year introduced a voluntary Earned Recognition scheme for O-license holders. This is a six-month pilot programme, initially for fleets that meet certain criteria, with the aim of rolling out to the industry in full, in 2018. The scheme involves participating companies being given DVSA direct online access to their tachograph and maintenance information, in exchange for fewer roadside checks and premises’ inspections. This means that the DVSA will be able to focus more on non-compliant companies, and allow those that are compliant to go about their day-to-day activities with less disruption.
